Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has shared an experience she had with a Master of Ceremonies at an event, describing remarks she found offensive.
In a post on Instagram on Monday, Mrs Odumegwu-Ojukwu said the MC made jokes about tall people during the programme.
She noted that while making the comments, he repeatedly looked in her direction, which she interpreted as deliberate.
The minister began her post by expressing frustration at what she described as a lack of common sense, saying such encounters were becoming frequent during the festive season.
She wrote, “There’s nothing more irritating than engaging folks with a devastating capacity to immunise themselves against any kind of commonsense. Nothing persin no go see for this Christmas Season.”
Ojukwu then recounted what happened at the event, explaining that the MC launched into jokes portraying tall people as arrogant and detached.
She wrote, “So, Here I am, at an event, and the comedian starts the usual ‘ tall people’ rants…how tall people are arrogant; their heads are in the clouds looking down on all their eyes survey, blah blah, blah… (… by the way, where should those heads be? Under a basket in his backyard, maybe)….he was railing, all the while looking towards my direction. E be like say dis one dey new for town…..”
She went on to question the MC’s self description and credentials, suggesting that anyone with a microphone could make similar claims.
She wrote, “He claims to be a comedian/ Dj/ upcoming musician…inukwa? Nothing that any nincompoop armed with a lethal microphone and a captive audience cannot claim to be.”
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu also described herself sarcastically as musically talented, stating that she could offer what she called “sweet music” in response to the incident.
She wrote, “What is there? Even myself, I am harmonically talented, and can bring sweet music to the ears, especially for ndi nti ike. What he needs is an immediate introduction to my album collection.”
The minister further added that the MC failed to mention positive traits about tall people, particularly generosity.
She wrote, “One thing he forgot to add is that tall people can also be very generous. It will be my singular pleasure to step up to that stage and personally deliver to him an advance Christmas gift of a CD of just one of my greatest hits.”
She concluded her post with a phrase suggesting a strong reaction if she were to take the stage.
“When I touchdown, ósó ga eme.”
