Bernard Doro officially assumed duty as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction on Tuesday, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
He becomes the fourth minister to lead the ministry, taking over from Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who now serves as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Minister Doro, accompanied by his wife, Naomi Doro and other well-wishers, was received at the ministry by the Minister of State Yusuf Sununu, the Permanent Secretary Yakubu Kofarmata and other senior officials.
In his maiden address to ministry staff and heads of agencies, Doro outlined his vision, pledging to lift more than 60 percent of Nigerians experiencing multidimensional poverty.
He stressed collaboration and diligence within the ministry as essential to achieving President Tinubu’s agenda of “making hope a reality” for the poor.
“I have lived in the UK for over two decades, so there will be a bit of adjustment to make, but by leveraging your experience, technical knowledge, and my willingness to learn, we can take this ministry forward,” Doro said.
He also highlighted the importance of trust and teamwork in achieving the ministry’s objectives, adding that he would rely on the support of experienced staff to continue ongoing programmes.
Bernard Doro acknowledged the work of his predecessor, describing him as a mentor and said he aims to ensure continuity while advancing the ministry’s goals.
