Behind The Scenes set to become first film title to cross 450,000 box office admissions

Actress Funke Akindele

Filmmaker Funke Akindele’s film, Behind The Scenes, is on track to become the first Nollywood title to reach 450,000 admissions at the Nigerian box office.

The film has sold just under 2,700 tickets fewer than the current record set by Omo Ghetto: The Saga with 449,901 admissions. If it surpasses that mark, Behind The Scenes will set a new benchmark for audience numbers in Nigeria.

The milestone is notable given rising cinema ticket prices in Nigeria, where the average cost for a ticket now sits around N7,000 to N8,000. Despite this, local films continue to attract strong attendance.

Funke Akindele now has five films among the top ten Nollywood titles by admissions. Other films on the list include The Wedding Party and The Wedding Party 2 from the ELFIKE Collective, Chief Daddy from EbonyLife, King of Boys by Kemi Adetiba, and Sugar Rush directed by Jadesola Osiberu.

Produced under Funke Akindele’s Funke Ayotunde Akindele Network (FAAN) and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes has also set revenue records. It became the fastest Nollywood film to cross the N1 billion mark and has grossed more than N2 billion, making it the highest-grossing Nigerian film to date.

The film was released nationwide in December 2025, with screenings in the United Kingdom and Ireland also contributing to its box office run.

If it surpasses Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Behind The Scenes will mark a major milestone for Nigerian cinema and show the continued growth of local films despite rising production costs and ticket prices.
