Tolu Babaleye, Counsel to Tajudeen Baruwa has accused Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, of failing to comply with court rulings on the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Speaking at a press conference, Counsel Babaleye said court decisions recognising Mr Baruwa as president of the union have not been enforced.
He said efforts to address the issue through institutions have not produced results.
“We have written to the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Nigerian Bar Association and the National Security Adviser on this matter,” he said.
Babaleye said the office of the National Security Adviser invited MC Oluomo, but he did not attend.
“They invited him to Lagos. He did not come. His lawyer came. Another date was given, but he did not return,” he said.
The lawyer alleged that MC Oluomo has continued to act without regard for the court rulings.
He also claimed that MC Oluomo had said only President Bola Tinubu could ask him to leave office.
“When they met with the Minister of Labour, he said it is only the President that can tell him to vacate the office,” Babaleye said.
He said Baruwa’s camp has made attempts to draw the attention of the president through petitions and publications.
Babaleye called on the president to direct the police to enforce the court rulings and restore Baruwa to office.
He also asked security agencies to act on the judgments.
The dispute follows a move by Baruwa to take over the union’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, citing court rulings in his favour.
The police said Baruwa and six others were arrested after attempting to enforce a court order without court officials.
MC Oluomo later returned to the secretariat and said he remains the president of the union.
He said the judgment relied on by Baruwa had been appealed and that a stay of execution was in place.
The leadership dispute in the union is before the court.
