Bamidele Akingboye’s son accuses police of withholding father’s autopsy result

Samuel Akingboye, son of the late former Ondo State governorship candidate Bamidele Akingboye, has accused the Lagos State Police Command of denying him access to his father’s autopsy report.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr Samuel questioned the actions of the Lagos State commissioner of police, Olohundare Jimoh, alleging that the police invited his stepmother to review the autopsy findings without his knowledge.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police refused to communicate the findings of the autopsy to me as the complainant till date, and when I was eventually invited, I discovered that the opposing side had already been engaged. They had reportedly visited the CP office on Tuesday, while I was invited on Friday.”

He said he was the complainant in the case and expected to be present when the report was discussed.

Samuel insisted that the CCTV footage and post-mortem findings pointed to violent circumstances surrounding his father’s death and asked the police to release the materials.

“I maintain that the CCTV footage and post mortem findings reportedly point to violent circumstances surrounding my father’s death suggesting an obvious case of murder. If there is nothing to conceal, I call for these to be released immediately and transparently,” he said.

He said the commissioner’s handling of the case suggested an attempt to divert the investigation.

He further alleged that his stepmother and her children had begun selling his father’s assets despite the ongoing investigation.

“Meanwhile, actions have reportedly commenced by parties of interest (my stepmother and her children) to access, alter, or transfer assets, property documents, and business holdings belonging to my late father, even while the investigation is yet to be concluded.”

Samuel also claimed he had received threats from his stepmother, her brother and her children.

“I have received indirect and direct death threats from my stepmother, her younger brother and her children owing to my pursuit of truth over my father’s death.”

He appealed to the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Ondo State governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the public for intervention and protection.

Police began probing the death of Bamidele Akingboye on September 13.

A special unit from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, visited his Victoria Garden City residence to gather evidence.

Some occupants of the house were invited for questioning and the autopsy result is still being awaited.

Mr Akingboye, known as OBA, died on September 3 at his VGC home.

He was chief executive officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems and president of WeAfrica Group.

He held the title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland and is survived by wives, children, grandchildren and siblings.
