Singer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared a moment from former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s 89th birthday celebration where the elder statesman kissed him on the head after receiving a gift.
Charly Boy posted a video of the moment on Instagram on Thursday. In the clip, he arrived at the event carrying a large box which he balanced on his head before presenting it to the former president.
Guests watched as Obasanjo opened the box at the gathering and then placed a kiss on the entertainer’s head, drawing laughter from those present.
Sharing the video, Charly Boy wrote:
“When OBJ Kissed CharlyBoy

Honour for a life wey don see storms, battles and history yet still stand strong like iroko tree.
And today… Abeokuta witness am.”
Charly Boy and Obasanjo have maintained a close relationship for years.
The entertainer has previously spoken about their bond, describing it as uncommon and based on mutual respect. According to him, many people find the friendship surprising because of his reputation for criticising political leaders.
Charly Boy has said their relationship is built on honest conversations about Nigeria’s challenges and a willingness to disagree without losing respect for each other.
Their closeness also drew attention when Obasanjo attended the launch of Charly Boy’s autobiography 999, an event the entertainer described as a significant gesture from the former president.
Obasanjo served as Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007.
