The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been officially placed on the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register following his conviction for sexually assaulting a minor.
The update comes after reports claiming the actor had been cleared by the Court of Appeal. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, dismissed the claims, saying:
“Mr Olanrewaju James was not cleared of the offences of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.”
Pedro urged Lagos residents and the public to ignore the false reports, cautioning actor Yomi Fabiyi and any platform promoting them to desist immediately.
The DSVA added, “In line with Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law 2021, his name has been duly entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register.
This measure supports ongoing efforts to protect minors, strengthen accountability and ensure that accurate information is available to the public.”
Pedro explained that although the Court of Appeal in June 2024 set aside older charges from 2013/2014, it affirmed the convictions relating to the sexual assault of Princess’ foster child. The Supreme Court later struck out Baba Ijesha’s further appeal and a motion for a fresh appeal was dismissed in October.
He stressed that the actor’s release was due solely to completing his prison term, not acquittal.
