Veteran actor Babatunde Bamgbode, popularly known as Baba Fokoko, has denied claims that the president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), MC Oluomo, promised Nollywood stars monetary rewards during the 2023 election campaign for President Bola Tinubu.
Several actors, including Lalude, Alapini, Toyin Abraham, Olaiye Igwe, Seyi Law, Eniola Badmus and Foluke Daramola, were among the entertainers who campaigned for Tinubu’s presidency.
In June, Alapini expressed regret over his involvement, lamenting that he was not rewarded after Tinubu’s victory. His colleague Lalude later accused MC Oluomo of failing to fulfil what he allegedly promised them during the campaign.
However, in an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Baba Fokoko dismissed their claims, saying MC Oluomo never made such promises.
“He didn’t promise to reward any of us. He didn’t promise me anything, but he had it in mind to treat us well. It’s been more than two years! He didn’t promise to give anyone anything,” the actor said.
According to him, the union boss only provided foodstuffs during the campaign, which they shared among themselves.
“He brought foodstuffs to us to share during the campaign, and instructed us to distribute the remaining ones among ourselves. We went home with those foodstuffs more than two times. But he never promised to compensate us after the campaign,” he added.
Baba Fokoko’s clarification follows growing discontent among some Nollywood figures who feel unappreciated after publicly supporting Tinubu’s campaign.
While Lalude and Alapini have insisted that MC Oluomo failed to keep his word, Fokoko maintains that no financial promises were ever made.
As of press time, MC Oluomo has not reacted to the renewed debate among the actors.
