Baba-Ahmed asks Obi to return to LP if ADC tickets fail

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed

Former Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has asked Peter Obi to return to the party if he fails to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Mr Baba-Ahmed made the call during an interview on Trust TV while speaking on the 2027 general elections.

“I have much respect for Peter Obi. If he doesn’t get the ADC ticket, he should come back to the Labour Party please.

“I will work for him and try to get him the ticket in the Labour Party. I will try and mend the ways between him and whoever he may have offended,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed was Mr Obi’s running mate under the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the ADC Dele Momodu said the party needs a clear plan to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking in a television interview, Mr Momodu said winning an election requires more than public support.

“What it takes to win an election is not just the crowd; it is not just the noise; it is not just your ideas; it is not how brilliant you are,” he said.

He said Tinubu cannot be defeated based on popularity alone.

“Tinubu is so formidable that you are not just going to produce a candidate who can take him out. It doesn’t work that way,” he added.
