Singer Ayra Starr has confirmed that she has relocated to New York City.

The ‘Rush’ crooner disclosed this in a video interview, saying she has spent “less than two months” in the city.

Ayra Starr said New York feels familiar to her because its energy reminds her of Lagos. “New York reminds me so much of Lagos. The pace, the energy… it’s just like Lagos,” she said.

She added that the presence of Nigerians and Africans in the city makes her feel at home. “There are a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so it feels like home,” she said.

The 23-year-old, signed to Mavin Records, has been expanding her global reach in recent months. She was also part of the lineup for the 2025 Global Citizen Festival in New York, where she performed alongside acts like The Weeknd, Shakira and Tyla.

Ayra Starr also strengthened her international push earlier in the year by signing a management deal with Roc Nation for her global bookings and branding while still being under Mavin.

Her second studio album, The Year I Turned 21, released in May 2024, earned her wider international attention with collaborations featuring Asake, Giveon, Anitta and Rauw Alejandro.
