Singer Ayra Starr has reacted to a viral claim that her management deal with Roc Nation bars her from dating or starting a family for five years.
A video posted by a content creator had alleged that the terms of her contract with Roc Nation prevent her from having a boyfriend, starting a family and making career or personal decisions without the label’s approval.
“She can’t choose collaborations without Roc Nation’s approval. She also can’t post on social media, dress, or speak in a way that goes against the label’s image,” the narrator claimed.
The rumour quickly spread online, drawing reactions from fans, with many describing the alleged terms as extreme and exploitative.
Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), the 22-year-old reposted the clip and asked, “Does Ayra Starr know about this?” a sarcastic response to the claim.
She also reposted a tweet that read: “Them lie on top your head for broad daylight.”
According to reports, Mavin Records signee, born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, signed a management deal with Roc Nation, the label founded by rapper and mogul Jay-Z, earlier in July.
Although the details of the deal have not been made public, reports said the agreement will support Ayra Starr’s global career expansion while she remains signed to Mavin and its parent company, Universal Music Group.
Ayra Starr rose to fame in 2021 with her hit single ‘Away’ and gained international recognition with songs like ‘Bloody Samaritan’ and ‘Rush.’
The latter earned her a Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance in 2024.
She recently featured on a remix of Chris Brown’s ‘Sensational’ alongside Davido and performed on multiple legs of Coldplay’s world tour.
No statement has been issued by Roc Nation as of the time of filing this report.
