Singer Ayra Starr is marking five years since the release of her debut EP, a project that launched her professional music career.
On January 22, 2021, Ayra released her self-titled EP ‘Ayra Starr’ under Mavin Records. The five-track project gained rapid attention on digital platforms and helped position her as one of the emerging voices among young Nigerian artists. Five years on, the EP is again drawing attention online as fans and industry figures reflect on its impact.
Ayra acknowledged the anniversary on Thursday with a brief Instagram post. She shared photos of herself in a yellow satin outfit and wrote, “5 years.” The post attracted reactions from fans, fellow musicians, and other industry players, many of whom commented on her growth since her debut.
Mavin Records also celebrated the milestone on social media, writing, “Celebrating 5 years of @ayrastarr’s celestial journey from IG freestyles to Grammy nominations! This debut EP resonates with billions of hearts fusing powerful messaging and irresistible music; AYRA STARR continues to shine on global stages🥂”
The EP runs for about 13 minutes and includes tracks such as ‘Away’, ‘Sare’, ‘Ditr’, ‘Ija’, and ‘Damage.’ ‘Away’ became the breakout record, topping Apple Music and iTunes charts in Nigeria shortly after its release. The song connected with young listeners through its themes, delivery, and production.
At the time of the release, Ayra was moving from social media discovery into the mainstream. The EP combined Afrobeats, R and B, and pop influences, setting the tone for a career that has since produced multiple hit singles, successful albums, and international recognition.
