AY claps back at troll who accused comedian of ignoring him in 2008

AY Comedian AY Makun

Comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has knocked a social media user who accused him of ignoring the person years ago.

The drama started after AY warned his followers to be wary of friends who chase negative stories online just to gain attention. He wrote:
“Beware of anyone who calls you a friend yet rushes to jump on any negative news about you just to trend and gain monetization. Not everyone around you wishes you well. May God protect us from friends who are truly enemies in disguise.”

A commenter accused him of hypocrisy, suggesting his success was due to favouritism from industry pioneer Alibaba. The troll added that if Alibaba treated AY the same way he treats others, AY “for no dey where you dey today.”

AY responded, dismissing the claims and pointing to his early career struggles. He wrote:
“You are obviously a troll without identity. In 2008 I had no PA. I was still building myself and my brand. What you mentioned about Alibaba cannot count against me in this country, if truly you are in the business of Standup comedy in Nigeria. Facts don’t lie.”

AY started his career under Alibaba before launching AY Live and the AY Open Mic Challenge, helping spotlight emerging comedians. He has faced public scrutiny before, including a May 2025 EFCC invitation over alleged naira abuse, from which he was cleared. He has also criticised entertainers for projecting “fake lifestyles” on social media.
