Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has written to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, raising concerns over what he described as irregularities in the ongoing process to select a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

In a letter dated January 8, and signed by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu, the musician questioned the procedure adopted by the Fusengbuwa ruling house and the Ijebu Ode Local Government in nominating candidates for the vacant stool.

According to the letter, the Secretary of Ijebu Ode Local Government had earlier directed the ruling house to convene a statutory meeting within 14 days to nominate candidates. However, K1 said a subsequent notice introduced additional requirements not contained in the chieftaincy declaration or the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State.

The notice reportedly asked aspirants to obtain nomination forms and appear before a screening panel, with delegates to be selected ahead of the nomination meeting. K1 argued that the process could disenfranchise eligible members of the ruling house.

Part of the letter reads:
“It is a matter of deep concern to our client that all these directives, which contravene the Chieftaincy Declaration, the Obas and Chiefs Law, and the letter from the Secretary of Ijebu Ode Local Government, were included in the family’s letter dated January 6, 2026.

“It is clear that there are plans by the leadership of the ruling house to disenfranchise members desirous of participating in the nomination of candidates for the Awujale stool.

“We wish to emphasise that all members of the ruling house are entitled to attend the meeting to nominate candidates of their choice. A group of people in the ruling house cannot usurp these rights.”

K1 urged the governor to intervene to ensure due process and protect the rights of all eligible members.

Reacting, the vice chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed the claims, describing the petition as misguided. He said the screening process was necessary to manage the large number of ruling house members.

The Awujale stool became vacant following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona in July 2025 after a reign of more than six decades. The nomination process is expected to continue pending any intervention by the Ogun State Government.
