The Fusengbuwa ruling house has stated that Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, known as K1 De Ultimate, is not a member of the family and cannot contest for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne.
The clarification was made during a meeting of family heads in Ijebu Ode on Thursday. The Awujale stool became vacant following the death of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July after 65 years on the throne.
Spokesperson for the Fusengbuwa Nomination Committee, Abiodun Ogidan, said a review of the documents submitted by the singer showed he is “definitely not one of us in the Fusengbuwa ruling house.”
Ogidan added that the ruling house did not give him nomination forms, saying, “Awujale nomination forms were not given to him; the Awujale form had closed by the time he began to claim that he’s from the Fusengbuwa family.”
He also said, “How can someone who has never been part of our family meetings or supported the family in any way now suddenly wake up at the height of the glory of our family and begin to say what never happened? … Wasiu Ayinde is only trying to rewrite history, but this is 2025; he can’t pull the wool over our eyes. He is not part of us, and people with fake lineage won’t be part of what we are doing here.”
Another family representative, Alhaja Adesumbo Oduneye of the Oduneye family, said they were surprised by the lineage data form submitted by K1 De Ultimate, noting that it was signed by someone who, according to her, was neither the family head nor an authorised representative.
She said, “We don’t even know anything about Setejoye that he is talking about; he is spreading falsehood because Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde is never a member of the Oduneye or Jadiara royal family … Wasiu Ayinde doesn’t, by any means or chance, have anything doing or connected to Jadiara ruling.”
Earlier last week, K1 De Ultimate had announced his intention to be considered for the Awujale stool, describing himself as a “bonafide son” of the ruling house and saying his interest was in line with Ijebu customs and Ogun State chieftaincy laws.
The ruling house has fixed December 15 for formal nominations. After that, the kingmakers are expected to choose a candidate within seven days and forward the name to the Ogun State Government for approval before the coronation process begins.
The Awujale is the traditional ruler of the Ijebu Kingdom, and the stool rotates among four ruling houses: Gbelegbuwa, Anikinaiya, Fusengbuwa and Fidipote.
