The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has asked Fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, to prove he is a member of the family before his interest in the Awujale of Ijebuland throne can move forward.
Chairman of the ruling house, Abdulateef Owoyemi, said in a statement that anyone seeking the stool must first complete the royal lineage data form. “The first step for anyone interested in contesting for the Awujale throne is to declare their lineage by filling the standard Fusengbuwa ruling house royal lineage data form. Once confirmed as a legitimate member of the ruling house, they can then apply for the expression of interest form,” he said.
Owoyemi added that K1 was told to follow the same procedure as every other aspirant, saying, “We have told him, just like everyone else interested in the Awujale throne, that the first step is to declare his lineage. He will do this by completing the royal lineage data form, showing his full name, which parent and grandparent he descends from, and continuing up to seven generations.” He said the process was introduced to prevent strangers with no blood ties from laying claim to the stool.
The singer had earlier written the ruling house on December 3 to formally declare interest in succeeding the late Oba Sikiru Adetona. In his letter, he wrote, “I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, MON, hereby formally notify the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland, subject strictly to the provisions of Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.”
He described himself as a “bonafide son” of the ruling house and claimed descent from the Oba Jadiara lineage. The musician also highlighted his cultural contributions and the national and traditional honours he has received, including Mayegun of Yorubaland in 2020, Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu in 2023, and the national honour of MON.
Owoyemi said although the application window closed on December 5, the singer was granted an extension till December 10 to complete the lineage form. He said the ruling house would review the documents once submitted and would contact him if clarification was needed.
He stressed that only those verified as genuine members of the Fusengbuwa family will be forwarded to kingmakers during the selection stage. He also said the ruling house hopes to have a new Awujale in place by the second or third week of January 2026. After receiving submissions, the ruling house is expected to forward names to the local government within 14 days, after which kingmakers will select a candidate for transmission to the governor.
The Awujale stool became vacant following the death of Oba Adetona in July 2025 after a 64-year reign.
