The remains of former minister of agriculture Audu Ogbeh have been buried in his hometown, Efugo, Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Mr Ogbeh, who died on August 8, at the age of 78, was buried on Friday after a funeral mass at St. Francis Catholic Church, Otukpa.

His casket was lowered into the grave around 1:20 pm in the presence of family members, friends, political associates and community leaders.

At a Night of Tribute held earlier in Abuja, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai recounted how former President Muhammadu Buhari had initially chosen Ogbeh as secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) after the All Progressives Congress won the 2015 election.

El-Rufai said Buhari later abandoned the plan following claims from individuals around him that Ogbeh was indebted to banks to the tune of about N2 billion from agricultural ventures.

He explained that Buhari subsequently admitted he had been misled and later sought to compensate Ogbeh by appointing him Minister of Agriculture.

Until his death, Audu Ogbeh was a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

He also previously served as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
