Afrobeats singer Asake was seen in a viral video struggling to get close enough to touch the Black Stone during a pilgrimage.
Asake is currently in Mecca, one of Islam’s holiest cities, where thousands of Muslims gather during the sacred month of Ramadan for prayers and spiritual reflection.
In a circulating clip, the 31-year-old was lifted by people around him in an attempt to reach the sacred stone embedded in the Kaaba.
However, the effort appeared difficult due to the massive crowd of pilgrims gathered around the Kaaba, with many worshippers also attempting to get close to the sacred site.
The video showed the music star surrounded by thousands of worshippers performing prayers and religious rites at the Masjid al-Haram.
Amid the crowd, the singer was seen wearing a white robe similar to those worn by many pilgrims visiting the holy sites.
Earlier, the Afrobeats star shared a clip on his social media page showing the moment he offered prayers at Raudhatul Jannah, one of the most revered prayer spots in Islam located inside Al-Masjid an-Nabawi.
The Black Stone, known as Black Stone, is set into the eastern corner of the Kaaba inside Masjid al-Haram. Many Muslim pilgrims try to touch or kiss it while performing tawaf, the ritual of circling the Kaaba during Hajj or Umrah. Because of the large crowds around the Kaaba, it is often difficult for pilgrims to get close to the stone, and many instead point towards it during the ritual.
Asake, known for songs such as ‘Lonely at the Top’, has been one of Nigeria’s prominent Afrobeats acts in recent years and continues to attract attention both for his music and public appearances.
