Arise News anchor, reporter and producer Somtochukwu Maduagwu has been killed following an armed robbery incident at her residence in Katampe area of Abuja.

She died in the early hours of Monday, at the age of 29.

In a statement on Monday, Arise News confirmed her death and described her as a valued colleague whose work connected with viewers.

Beyond her role as a broadcaster, Maduagwu was also a lawyer.

The organisation extended condolences to her parents, siblings, extended family, friends and colleagues, noting that her contribution to the newsroom and society will be remembered.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Sommie’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time. Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of the culprits,” the statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi for the management read.

The Nigeria Police have commenced investigation into the incident.
