Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, also known as Sommie, has been buried in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Miss Maduagwu, who died on September 29 during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Abuja, was interred on Saturday after a funeral Mass at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Agulu.
Family members, relatives, friends, colleagues and dignitaries, including the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, attended the burial.
Delivering a homily during the Mass, Rev. Peter Ezewuzie urged the family to take comfort in the life Maduagwu lived.
He said the deceased lived a meaningful life and encouraged mourners to live theirs purposefully, as no one knows when their time will come.
Peter Obi, who is from Agulu, described Maduagwu’s death as a painful reminder of insecurity in the country.
He said, “We cannot question God. When I heard of her death, I didn’t know she was from Agulu. Our coming here is to console the family, but we know this loss is a huge one. Please remember her and her family in your prayers.”
Speaking on behalf of the family, Maduagwu’s uncle, Obi Maduagwu, thanked Arise News for supporting the family since her death.
He said the organisation stood by them throughout the difficult period.
Reports said the attackers invaded her residence at night and although she was rushed to a hospital, she was later confirmed dead.
