The protocol subcommittee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 national convention on Tuesday held its inaugural meeting, marking the start of preparations for the party’s convention.
The meeting was chaired by Bassey Otu, governor of Cross River State. Committee secretary, Hadiza Bala Usman, who is special adviser to the president on policy and coordination, was also in attendance.
Other members present included minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory Mariya Bunkure, minister of steel development Shuaibu Audu and member of the House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency Jimi Benson.
At the meeting, the committee discussed its terms of reference which will guide the execution of its mandate. The responsibilities include managing official courtesy and precedence, coordinating invitations and RSVPs and developing seating arrangements for the convention.
Members of the committee later inspected Eagle Square, the venue of the 2026 national convention, to assess logistical and protocol arrangements.
After the inspection, the committee paid a courtesy visit to Aminu Masari, chairman of the APC national convention planning committee, at his residence to brief him on the outcome of the meeting and provide updates on preparations.
The protocol subcommittee also created specialised groups within the committee to handle different aspects of its assignment as preparations for the 2026 national convention continue.
