National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nentawe Yilwatda has said the party will increase women’s participation in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement was released on Wednesday by Abimbola Tooki, special adviser to the chairman on media and communications strategy.
Chairman Yilwatda spoke during a meeting with members of the Forum of 2027 APC Female Aspirants Network led by Nikky Onyeri at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
He said women’s participation will be part of the party’s plans. He also said representation should include gender balance.
According to him, women make up a large part of the population and should be represented in governance.
He said the party will create more opportunities for women and young people in party roles and elective positions.
The chairman said women make up a large number of party members and called for efforts to turn this into electoral support.
He also urged women to use their networks in communities, religious groups and professional bodies.
He said the party is working on its ideology to include gender participation. He asked the group to submit proposals to the party’s Ideology Committee.
Yilwatda said the party may consider policies on women’s representation in appointive and elective positions.
He added that economic and educational support will also be part of the plan.
In their remarks, the group commended the party leadership and expressed support for President Bola Tinubu.
They called for more women in political positions and referred to national and international frameworks on gender representation.
The group also presented proposals including reserved seats for women, 35 percent representation in party structures, lower nomination fees, protection from violence and support for female aspirants.
They said they would mobilise support across the country ahead of the 2027 elections and plan to hold a rally in Abuja.
Yilwatda said the party will continue to support participation across the country.
