APC denies Adeleke’s claim of federal influence in Osun governorship election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has rejected a claim by Governor Ademola Adeleke that the party plans to use federal influence to affect the governorship election scheduled for August 15.

The party’s Director of Media and Information Kola Olabisi said in a statement on Sunday that the claim was not correct.

According to him, the party has no plan to influence the election through unlawful means and believes it can win based on support in the state.

“The allegation that our party intends to rely on federal might to win the governorship election is a mere figment of the imagination of some rumour mongers,” Mr Olabisi said.

He said the party has focused on political mobilisation and planning ahead of the election.

Olabisi also said some politicians who were linked with the governor’s political structure had joined the APC.

He mentioned Shuaib Oyedokun, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi and Wole Oke.

He also referred to the support of Dotun Babayemi and Akin Ogunbiyi.

The APC said its candidate Munirudeen Oyebamiji will contest the election without unlawful methods.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke said federal authority should not be used to affect elections.

Speaking at a meeting with leaders and ward officials of the Accord Party in Osogbo, the governor urged residents to remain watchful ahead of the election.

“Federal might is for good governance, not election rigging,” he said.

He added that the outcome of the election should be decided by voters.
