Entrepreneur and reality TV star Chioma Ikokwu, popularly known as Chioma Good Hair, has advised fans to stop putting pressure on her to get married.
The 34-year-old gave the warning on Snapchat while reacting to a message from a follower who appeared to express concern over her marital status.
She replied:
“I know you mean well, but I don’t like messages like this, Rama. Don’t put pressure on me, please. It’s too late, lol. With all the technology in the world, stop it!
Plus, I’m in my 30s, I’ve got time!
“We are not in 1885 anymore.
And I promise you that I’m not married right now. It’s not by circumstance. It’s by choice. I’m not going to settle because everyone’s walking down the aisle and some are getting divorced six months later. Please, God’s timing is everything. I’ll do it right.
Love you though because I know you mean well.”
In a follow-up post, the Real Housewives of Lagos star said she wasn’t emotionally ready for marriage in her 20s.
“Tbh, anyone that would’ve married me before 30 would’ve cried because I truly wasn’t ready. I still wanted to travel the world, grow in my career and be free. Am I satisfied now? yes! Am I ready now? Yes! Am I desperate? absolutely if not!
“Some people have been ready since they were 16 years old – that’s all good. That wasn’t me.”
Chioma, who is also a lawyer, has consistently used her platform to challenge societal pressure on women to marry early. She made headlines earlier this year after declaring on Instagram, “Don’t put pressure on me please,” in response to similar remarks.
The businesswoman co-founded luxury hair brand Good Hair Ltd and also runs the upscale Lagos restaurant Brass & Copper. In addition to her appearance on the reality show, she is involved in humanitarian work.
Born in Lagos on June 25, 1989, Chioma holds a law degree from the University of Birmingham and a master’s in International Environmental Law and Arbitration from SOAS, University of London.
