Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has returned to gym training following a car accident that claimed the lives of his two friends.
Joshua resumed training 19 days after the crash, sharing posts of himself working out in the gym.
In one video showing him sparring, he captioned the session “mental strength therapy.”
He also shared clips of strength training, spinning and swimming.
The accident occurred on December 29 on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway.
A Lexus SUV conveying Joshua, his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, rammed into a stationary truck parked at the shoulder of the road.
Ayodele and Ghami died at the scene, while Joshua sustained injuries and was hospitalised in Nigeria.
He was later discharged and returned to the United Kingdom with the remains of the deceased.
He also attended their funeral prayers at a mosque in London.
Joshua had been in Nigeria on holiday following his victory over Jake Paul in Miami about 10 days before the accident.
The boxer later shared additional posts showing time spent on a cardio machine, which he captioned “I am a fighter,” alongside an image from his 2017 bout with Wladimir Klitschko.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Kayode, was charged in connection with the crash.
At a court hearing, Kayode pleaded not guilty to charges including dangerous driving, stating that the vehicle’s brakes failed.
He was granted bail and taken to the Sagamu Correctional Centre for documentation.
Kayode’s counsel said his client had renewed his driver’s licence and was cleared to drive pending the release of the renewed document.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said the boxer would decide on his future after taking time to recover.
“He will need time before deciding on his future. When the time is right, he will make his decision,” Hearn said.
