Annie Macaulay, estranged wife of music icon 2Baba, made headlines on Sunday night as she introduced herself with her maiden name at the 17th edition of The Headies, held at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.
The star-studded arrivals at the red carpet set social media buzzing, with hashtags such as #TheHeadies and #Headies2025 dominating the trending charts.
Among the notable figures spotted at the event was Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who posed for pictures with attendees.
Also seen on the red carpet were Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and his wife Priscilla, marking their first Headies appearance as a married couple.
Annie, who served as a presenter alongside Oreagba Farooq, sparked reactions when she introduced herself by saying, “My name is Annie Idi—oh sorry, Annie Macaulay. I am single!” Her brief slip and quick correction drew cheers from the audience and set tongues wagging online.
The move comes after 2Baba announced his separation from Annie on Instagram.
In a statement, the singer described the decision as “painful but necessary,” asking fans and the public to respect their privacy during this period.
Following the announcement, Annie returned to social media after a brief break and released a statement reaffirming her identity as Annie Macaulay.
The actress, who married 2Baba in 2012, has two daughters with the singer.
Their marriage, often in the public eye, survived multiple controversies including allegations of infidelity and family disputes.
Despite past efforts to keep their relationship intact, the couple has now chosen to go their separate ways.
