Big Brother Naija star Angel Smith has reacted to backlash over a viral video of her in a cosy moment with British-Nigerian rapper Darkoo.
Angel came under fire after posting a video showing herself in an affectionate embrace with rapper and singer Oluwafisayo Isa, popularly known as Darkoo.
The video, which quickly went viral on social media, sparked speculations about Angel’s sexuality, with many assuming she is a lesbian.
Responding to the rumours on her Snapchat page, the 2021 BBNaija finalist said being called a lesbian is not the insult people think it is.
“Nigerians discover that other people don’t share the same politics as them and then lose their minds,” she wrote.
“Like wow, calling me a lesbian is not the gag you think it is, nor is it an insult. Bad news: my fine ass.”
Angel criticised those concerned about her relationship and sexuality, pointing out that actual societal issues like pedophilia are being ignored.
“Mind you, this is my life. You people did not come upon some secret thing. I posted it myself, and I let my friends post it because guess what? It’s probably shocking, but can you imagine that this is my life, and I’m an adult, and I can do whatever I like?” she added.
Angel also reminded her critics that differing beliefs don’t make others wrong, “Did you guys also know that because you think something is bad doesn’t mean the other person shares the same beliefs as you?”
She concluded her post with a philosophical jab, “We will die one day, and your opinions will be nothing more than a whisper caught in the wind. Shocking, I know.”
Angel, 24, was previously in a relationship with fellow BBNaija star Soma.
The two connected during the All Stars season of the reality show in 2023, sparking a whirlwind romance that carried on after the show ended.
However, in November 2024, Angel confirmed their breakup on social media, telling fans she was single again.
