The Amawbia community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Dr Ifeanyi Okeke as the Director General (DG) of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okeke is an indigene of the community.
A community leader, Mr. Eddy Nwokoye, gave the commendation on Wednesday in Awka, during a grand reception by the community to honour two of their sons for contributing to the development of the state and the country.
The duo, honoured for their outstanding contributions, are Dr Ifeanyi Okeke, DG, SON and Mr Chukwuma Okoye, the deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank President Tinubu for appointing our son and brother as the D-G of SON.
“By this appointment, the President has rewarded humility and hard work,” he said.
Nwokoye, the chairman of the occasion and retired director of Finance and Accounts, Federal Ministry of Education, urged Okeke to support Tinubu’s Transformation Agenda to develop the country.
“In order to succeed as the DG of SON, you have to key into Mr President’s transformation agenda to develop Nigeria; your appointment is a call to serve Nigeria.
“We want you to continue to represent our community, Anambra State and Nigeria.
In his remarks, Mr. Chukwuma Odumodu, the president general (PG) of Amawbia community, thanked the awardees for living up to expectations.
Odumodu challenged them to do more in the area of community development to justify the trust reposed in them.
The two awardees, who thanked the community for the gesture, said that the recognition would spur them to do more for the country, state and community.
NAN reports that the highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of plaques of recognition to the two illustrious sons of the community.
