The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the ongoing Anambra governorship election, George Moghalu, has lost his polling unit to Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The result was announced by the presiding officer of the polling unit, Okonkwo Ebere, at about 2:50 p.m. after the election ended.
Mr Moghalu, who voted at Uruagu Ward 1 in Nnewi North Local Government Area, polled 22 votes.
Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored five votes, while Soludo recorded 57 votes.
The total valid votes at the polling unit were 85, out of 463 registered voters.
Moghalu cast his vote around 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, accompanied by his family and associates.
After voting, he expressed concern over reports of vote buying and low voter turnout across the state, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve the conduct of the election.
“People are asking us to give them money before they can vote,” a Labour Party agent said.
The agent also noted the low voter turnout in many polling units.
According to reports, the voting began late in some polling units due to the delayed arrival of materials and voters.
At PU 012, Cooperative Centre, Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi North LGA, as of 10:58 a.m., few voters were seen at the venue.
Allegations of vote buying by party agents were also recorded in the area.
Low voter turnout was observed across polling stations in Uruagu community and other parts of Nnewi North.
