Twitch streamer and internet personality Kai Cenat has arrived in Lagos for a second time, drawing renewed interest in a long‑announced educational project for children in the city’s waterfront community.
Cenat landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday where he was greeted with music and a crowd of supporters. His return comes nearly a year after his first visit, when he pledged to help build a school in the Makoko area, a settlement known for its challenging living conditions.
Since that pledge, the project has faced delays related to land acquisition and regulatory approvals in Makoko. The plan was later adjusted to locate the school in Yaba, a neighbouring part of Lagos, while still offering free education to children from Makoko once completed.
Cenat has publicly discussed the school initiative, including during his Mafiathon 3 livestream where he said more than $1 million had been raised toward the project. In past updates he outlined that the work ahead includes buying land, gaining approvals, constructing the facility and organising staffing and curriculum.
On social media, fans expressed hope that his presence this week could speed up visible progress on the education initiative, while some critics have questioned the timeline and demanded clearer updates on ground‑level work.
Cenat’s trip follows a recent visit to Nigeria by fellow American streamer IShowSpeed, who spent time in Lagos as part of a broader Africa tour and attracted large crowds while interacting with local creators and fans.
