Francisca Ordega Super Falcons star

Benue State governor Hyacinth Alia has congratulated Super Falcons winger Francisca Ordega (OON) with significant honours following her performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

At a reception in Makurdi on Wednesday night, Governor Alia presented Ordega with N50 million, a three-bedroom apartment and announced that a street in the state capital will bear her name.

Alia praised Ordega’s role in Nigeria’s WAFCON victory, calling her a source of pride and a role model for aspiring athletes in the state. He described the gesture as “our little way of saying thank you”.

Earlier this month, the minister of water resources and sanitation, Joseph Utsev, also honoured Ordega.

He hailed her as a symbol of hard work and team spirit and urged the government to invest in sports development in Benue.

Francisca Ordega, in turn, visited an IDP camp at Yelwata in Makurdi, donating relief materials through her foundation.

She dedicated Nigeria’s WAFCON win to the displaced families and encouraged young girls to pursue their dreams.
