Alaafin of Oyo Oba Abimbola Owoade has denied claims of a rift between him and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as well as the Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
Oba Owoade spoke with journalists on Tuesday in Oyo town, where he said his relationship with the governor remains cordial. He added that any issue that arises would be handled privately.
“I have nothing against the government. The governor has been very nice. If there is anything, I will meet him one-on-one,” he said.
The monarch also dismissed reports of strained relations with the Olubadan, stating that both maintain mutual respect.
“My relationship with the Olubadan is cordial. There is no misunderstanding,” he said.
He said the reports were spread by bloggers and individuals seeking attention, adding that such narratives often surround traditional institutions.
Owoade addressed his absence at recent public events, explaining that he had been unwell and would return to full duties after recovery.
He also clarified a recent incident involving a handshake with the Olubadan, saying it was not intentional.
“I extended my hand to him, but he later explained that he did not see it. I don’t see it as an offence. We later spoke and met again. There is no issue,” he said.
The monarch said preparations are ongoing for his birthday on July 18, during which chieftaincy titles will be conferred on three persons.
He noted that a land committee has been set up to handle disputes and said plans are underway for a civic centre and renovation of the palace.
Alaafin said he remains committed to peace, unity and development and urged the public to ignore unverified reports.
