Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume has appointed veteran journalist Yomi Odunuga as his special adviser on media and publicity.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday and takes immediate effect.
Until his appointment, Mr Odunuga served as a deputy editor at The Nation newspaper.
Born on June 2, 1966, Odunuga is known for his work as a poet, lyricist, reporter, and columnist. He began his journalism career at The PUNCH as a proofreader and rose through the ranks.
He gained national attention during his time as State House correspondent for The PUNCH, where he ran two popular columns, Life in Abuja and Inside Aso Rock. His sharp political commentary earned him recognition and led to his promotion as Abuja bureau chief and later, group political editor in 2006.
Odunuga later moved to The Nation as assistant editor and bureau chief in Abuja. His popular column, Knucklehead, known for its critique of politics and society, continued his tradition of hard-hitting analysis.
In 2019, he was appointed special adviser on media and publicity to the then Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege. After his four-year stint at the National Assembly, he returned to The Nation as deputy editor, where he handled special interviews and commentary.
Odunuga brings decades of experience in journalism and public communication to his new role.
