Akpabio urges unity in Akwa Ibom APC as party backs Tinubu, Eno for second term

Godswill Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State to remain united and rally behind President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno.

Senator Akpabio made the appeal on Friday during an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Uyo. It was the first such gathering since Governor Eno officially moved to the party in June.

Describing the governor as “a man of peace” and “a unifier,” Akpabio said the vision of a politically united Akwa Ibom had been fulfilled with Eno’s defection.

He praised Eno’s leadership style and what he described as his quick alignment with the APC’s vision. According to him, the governor’s development-focused approach fits well with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Akwa Ibom is one,” Akpabio said. “This Governor is a unifier and we should shun divisive tendencies and support him to bring development to our dear state.”

He added, “When I moved to the APC in 2018, my intention was to link our state to the national power grid and I’m happy that vision has become a reality with the leadership of Pastor Umo Eno.”

A key moment at the meeting came when Akpabio officially declared Eno the political leader of the APC in Akwa Ibom. He also handed him the party’s broom symbol.

Akpabio said the unity in the state would help boost support for Tinubu’s reforms aimed at building a stronger economy.

In a voice vote proposed by the senate president, the stakeholders unanimously endorsed Tinubu and Eno for second terms in office.

Governor Eno, in his remarks, said he had always admired Tinubu and promised to work for his re-election in 2027. He added that his joining the APC would further drive development in the state.

He also praised Akpabio’s role in the senate and pledged to support his return for another term as senate president.
