Senate president Godswill Akpabio has hailed the Super Falcons of Nigeria for their triumphant 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing the win as “another Daman Miracle.”
In a statement issued on Sunday by his special adviser on media and publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio praised the Nigerian women’s national team for clinching a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, commending their team spirit, resilience and unyielding commitment to national pride.
“Your thrilling comeback against Morocco is reminiscent of the Saudi ’88 Daman Miracle and the Dream Team’s triumph at the Atlanta ’96 Olympics,” Akpabio said.
“This victory will forever be etched in the annals of African football history.”
The Senate President noted that the team’s performance not only brought glory to Nigeria but also reignited faith in the country’s unity and resilience.
He applauded the Falcons for their skill, determination and consistency, saying their achievement has inspired a nation.
“I am a proud Nigerian and on behalf of the Senate and the entire 10th National Assembly, I heartily congratulate the Super Falcons on this historic 10th WAFCON title,” he said.
“As a legislature, we will continue to support the development of sports through relevant legislation and adequate appropriation.”
Akpabio also congratulated President Bola Tinubu and the entire country, describing the win as a unifying and joyous moment for Nigerians.
“Congratulations Super Falcons. Congratulations Nigeria!” he concluded.
