Godswill Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has felicitated his special adviser on legal matters, Monday Ubani, SAN, who turned 61 on Sunday.

In a statement signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio described Mr Ubani as a tireless human rights defender and a legal icon with deep knowledge of the law.

“As one of the finest lawyers around, Dr. Ubani’s contributions to the growth of our nation’s legal system and democratic development will remain indelible,” Akpabio said.

He praised what he described as Ubani’s bold stand against military rule, noting his role alongside the late Gani Fawehinmi in pushing for democracy. He also commended Ubani’s leadership as former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Ikeja, and later, NBA-SPIDEL.

According to Akpabio, Ubani’s time as vice president of the Nigerian Bar Association brought significant gains in justice and constitutional matters.

“He has consistently stood against injustice and oppression, and has been a relentless voice for the downtrodden through strategic public interest litigations,” Akpabio added.

The former Akwa Ibom State governor said he values Ubani’s legal brilliance and patriotic service to the country. “These sterling attributes have earned you numerous accolades and widespread respect, and I am indeed proud to be associated with you,” he said.

“On behalf of my family and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I heartily congratulate Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani, SAN – a great Nigerian, a distinguished legal mind, and my trusted Special Adviser on Legal Matters,” Akpabio said.

He wished him a joyful birthday, divine blessings, and more years of impactful service in good health and prosperity.
