Godswill Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Governor Umo Eno and the people of Akwa Ibom State as the state marks its 38th anniversary.

In a statement he personally signed, Akpabio praised the people for their unity and support for successive governments since the state was created on September 23, 1987.

He said he remained grateful for the opportunity given to him by the people to serve as governor from 2007 to 2015 and later represent them at the national level.

“Akwa Ibom presented me to the world. The good people of this great state gave me the mantle to become their light bearer for peace, development and good governance at the sub-national level and beyond,” he said.

Akpabio appreciated former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, who created the state. He also paid tribute to leaders and stakeholders who worked for its creation.

He listed past leaders who contributed to the state’s growth, including former military administrators Tunde Ogbeha, Godwin Abbe, Idongesit Nkanga, Yakubu Bako, Joseph Adeusi, and John Ebiye, as well as former civilian governors Akpan Isemin, Victor Attah and Udom Emmanuel.

The Senate President urged Akwa Ibom people to continue supporting those in positions of authority and to work with Governor Eno’s administration for the progress of the state.

Akpabio commended Governor Eno for what he described as his inclusive style of leadership and for strengthening ties between Akwa Ibom and the federal government.

“Akwa Ibom has always been a hub of peace and development and for reconnecting it to the centre, Governor Umo Eno has done noble and the state stands a better chance to play a prominent role in the Federation,” he said.

He pledged to continue promoting the values and qualities that distinguish Akwa Ibom people wherever they serve.

Akpabio concluded by wishing Governor Eno and all Akwa Ibom residents renewed hope, unity, and progress as they look forward to the future.
