Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie and Esther Okoronkwo have been named in the CAF Best XI following Nigeria’s title-winning run at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The four Super Falcons stars played pivotal roles in Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON triumph, capped by a thrilling 3–2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final on Saturday night.
Ajibade, the team captain, emerged as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), having won Woman of the Match in three of Nigeria’s six matches.
The Atletico Madrid forward led with creativity, pace and goals, inspiring Nigeria’s run in the tournament.
Nnadozie, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Africa, lived up to expectations by conceding just two goals, both in the final.
Her heroic saves and command of the box earned her the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.
Alozie, who plays for Houston Dash in the United States, was rock-solid at right-back.
Known for her blistering pace and stamina, she not only neutralised opponents but also contributed offensively, scoring a decisive goal in the semi-final clash.
Okoronkwo, nicknamed “Messi Okoronkwo” by fans for her flair and vision, led the assist chart with six.
The dynamic forward was central to Nigeria’s comeback in the final, calmly slotting home a penalty and assisting goals by Flourish Ijamilusi and Jennifer Echegini.
The CAF Best XI also includes Morocco’s top scorer Ghizlane Chebbak and Ibtissam Jraidi, while South Africa’s Refiloe Jane was one of three South Africans named.
This year’s edition of WAFCON, hosted in Morocco, was widely regarded as the most competitive yet, featuring dramatic turnarounds, packed stadiums and historic moments.
Despite the pressure, the Super Falcons once again proved their dominance, maintaining a perfect record in all WAFCON finals they’ve played.
