Ondo State governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has mourned Ahmad Aladesawe, the chief Imam of Owo.
Sheik Aladesawe, who was also the chairman of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ondo State, died on Monday evening at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, at the age of 91.
He was until his death the secretary-general of the League in the South-West, Edo and Delta States.
Governor Aiyedatiwa in a condolence message said the late cleric dedicated his life to the service of Allah and humanity.
“His life was dedicated to the service of Allah (SWT) and humanity, and he will be fondly remembered for his unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and moral guidance”, he said.
He commiserated with his family, the Muslim community and the people of Owo, praying Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
“On behalf of the government and people of Ondo State, I extend heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Muslim Ummah, and the entire people of Owo. Though we mourn his departure, we take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life of faith, knowledge, and impact.”
Aiyedatiwa described Aladesawe as a guide to the Muslim Ummah and the larger society.
He prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
“We pray Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and give comfort to all who mourn this great loss”, he concluded.
Confirming the death, a close associate of the deceased, Kamorudeen Ishola, said the Janazah (Islamic burial rites) would take place in Owo on Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m.
Ahmad Aladesawe, a former school principal, combined his background in education with decades of Islamic scholarship.
