Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu’s firm, Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Limited, has said it will appeal a ruling by a Federal High Court ordering the forfeiture of some of its assets.
The company’s secretary Nnenna Onyeaso made this known in a statement on Thursday.
She said the ruling was a civil asset forfeiture order and did not establish any criminal liability against the company or its leadership.
“To be clear, this ruling is a civil asset forfeiture order with no finding of wrongdoing against Oceangate or its leadership,” she said.
She added that the court’s decision was based on suspicion and not proof, noting that the company has instructed its lawyers to file an appeal.
According to her, the company has confidence in the judicial process and expects the appeal to address the outcome of the case.
Onyeaso said the company’s operations remain ongoing and that it continues to employ Nigerians and operate in the energy sector.
She also said the company remains committed to the rule of law and will continue to engage the legal process.
The company thanked its employees, partners and clients for their support and said it remains focused on its activities while the case continues.
