AGN suspends actress Shirley Igwe indefinitely over on-set violence

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended actress Shirley Igwe indefinitely over allegations of violence and indiscipline on a film set in Lagos.

In a statement, chief of staff to the AGN National President, Ifeoma Okeke, said the suspension followed a preliminary investigation into the matter.

“Following our preliminary investigation into the allegation of violence leveled against actress Shirley Igwe on a film set in Lagos, the National Executive Council has resolved to place her on an indefinite suspension,” the statement read.

“This suspension is due to her unprofessional misconduct, violence and indiscipline – actions capable of bringing the profession to disrepute. The guild also directed members of the AGN to refrain from participating in any film production involving Shirley Igwe.”

The actress was accused of slapping a crew member after a disagreement during a movie shoot. The incident was reportedly caught on video and shared on social media, sparking backlash.

Shirley Igwe, a former Delta Soap model, gained attention in the early 2010s as an actress before being appointed principal protocol officer to former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2013. She later returned to acting and film production.

With the suspension in place, AGN members have been instructed not to work with the actress until further notice. The guild is expected to conduct a more detailed review of the incident and determine the next course of action.
