The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has expressed deep sorrow following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, in London at the age of 82.
Just hours before Buhari’s burial on Tuesday, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, AGN President Emeka Rollas took to Instagram to share a photo of himself with the former president and offer condolences.
Rollas said it was with a heavy heart that he, on behalf of all AGN members, extended their deepest sympathies to Buhari’s family, friends and the nation.
He described Buhari as a disciplined leader and a supporter of the creative industry. Reflecting on a personal connection, Rollas said he was honoured with the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) during Buhari’s administration, calling it “not just a personal milestone but a symbol of hope and progress for the Nigerian creative industry.”
He added: “We mourn a statesman whose legacy, though controversial to some, undeniably shaped the course of our nation in significant ways. May his soul find eternal rest, and may his family find comfort in the prayers and love of a grateful nation.”
On Monday, Governor Dikko Radda confirmed that Buhari’s remains were scheduled to arrive in Nigeria around noon on Tuesday and that the burial would take place later the same day in Daura, following Islamic rites.
Preparations for the burial began earlier in Daura, with heavy security deployed and the grave being dug at the former president’s residence.
The Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, declared a seven-day national mourning period and ordered that flags be flown at half-mast in Buhari’s honour.
