The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has condemned the altercation between Nollywood stars Peggy Ovire and Taye Arimoro on a movie set, describing the incident as disturbing and unprofessional.
A statement posted on Instagram on Thursday by AGN president Emeka Rollas said the guild “unequivocally condemns the inhumane and degrading treatment meted out to the actor.”
“No actor, under any circumstance, should be subjected to physical assault, intimidation, or any form of abuse in the course of professional engagement,” he said. “Such behaviour is not only unacceptable but also highly unethical and contrary to the standards and values of the Nigerian creative industry.”
The statement said the guild’s national task force had commenced a full investigation into the incident while calling on the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) to identify the producer involved and take disciplinary action in line with industry rules.
It advised movie practitioners to embrace “lawful and civil means of conflict resolution rather than resorting to violence or self-help.”
Peggy and Taye have been trending online since reports of their clash emerged. Taye alleged that his tyres were deflated and he was assaulted after insisting on leaving the set because his working hours were over. Peggy denied attacking him, claiming he was the aggressor and had assaulted two crew members, leaving her driver injured.
Hours after both parties made their claims, CCTV footage from the set surfaced online showing the moment Peggy confronted Arimoro, reigniting public debate over the incident.
Emeka reiterated that the guild remains committed to protecting actors’ welfare, dignity and safety while upholding the highest standards of professionalism in the film industry.
