Actor Afeez Owo has responded to a public apology made by Yemi Solade concerning an on-set altercation that happened over 20 years ago during a film shoot near Ibadan, Oyo State.
In an interview in July, Yemi accepted responsibility for his actions and said the incident was caused by a moment of frustration.
Reacting, Afeez during his appearance on the African A-List Podcast, said he has moved on from the incident and does not hold any grudge against Yemi, whom he called an elder in the profession.
“After watching his apology, I let go of everything,” Afeez said.
“Even if he hadn’t apologized, I wouldn’t hold it against him. He’s like an elder brother. In our culture, when there is a disagreement between an elder and a younger person, the younger one is often expected to make peace – even if the elder is at fault.”
Afeez said that at the time of the incident, he was working as the production manager and was in charge of the welfare of cast and crew. He explained that the misunderstanding happened while the crew was relocating from Ibadan to another set.
“I asked everyone to tell me what they needed before we left,” he said. “Uncle Yemi did not understand me. When he later got hungry, he became upset and slapped me.”
Afeez asked colleagues and the public to accept Yemi’s apology and move on. He said it is important to accept mistakes, take responsibility and continue working together.
“We are all human. Sometimes emotions take over,” he said. “What matters is to accept what happened, make things right, and move on. Uncle Yemi has done that, and I believe we should let peace continue.”
He ended by asking for better understanding and respect among people in the industry, saying that progress depends on cooperation and support.
