Fuji singer Adewale Ayuba has debunked reports claiming he divorced his wife and questioned the paternity of his children.
The ‘Bonsue Fuji’ exponent shared the statement on Instagram on Monday with the caption, “PUBLIC NOTICE: Disregard the unfounded and baseless story.”
The statement described the report as the work of a “faceless blogger” bent on maligning the singer’s family.
“There is absolutely no truth – not a single iota – in this cooked-up story. Dr Adewale Ayuba and his wife, Mrs Azuka Ego, are happily married, and their wonderful children are doing very well. The issue of paternity over their children has never, ever arisen in their marriage.”
The statement also addressed the claim that the marriage lasted only a year.
“Furthermore, this reckless blogger stated their marriage only lasted one year. For the record, they have been happily married for well over thirty years! This fundamental error alone exposes the story as a complete fabrication.”
It went on to describe the report as a deliberate smear campaign.
“This is nothing more than a cheap, despicable attempt to embarrass Dr Ayuba’s family, malign his character, and bring his united family to public ridicule.”
The camp said legal steps were being considered.
The statement ended with an appeal to fans and well-wishers.
“Please disregard this baseless rumour and continue to send love and prayers to his family. We will keep you updated on any legal action.”
Ayuba, 60, married Azukaego (née Kwentoh) in 1989. She is from Onitsha, Anambra State. The couple have seven children together.
In an interview years ago, Ayuba revealed that his wife’s family initially opposed their marriage because he is Yoruba and Muslim. He later embraced Christianity.
Ayuba, who is based partly in the United States, is one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Fuji musicians with a career spanning over four decades.
