2024 African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Lookman, whose recent exploits for Italian club Atalanta earned him continental recognition, was accompanied by his father, Adeyinka Lookman and the senior special assistant to the President on grassroots sports development, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka.
He proudly presented his CAF award to the president at Tinubu’s Lagos residence.
President Tinubu, currently in Lagos for the ECOWAS at 50 Summit, expressed admiration for the footballer’s discipline and success.
The visit also included a stop at the Lagos House in Marina, where Governor Sanwo-Olu warmly received the footballer.
“You are a symbol of the ‘Greater Lagos Rising’ spirit and a shining example for millions of Nigerian youths,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu’s aide on new media, Jubril Gawat, shared moments from the visit on X, sparking excitement among Nigerians who hailed Lookman as an inspiration to the next generation of athletes.
Describing the award as “not just a personal triumph, but a national moment of pride,” the governor stressed the need to nurture sporting talent to compete on the global stage.
