Adeleye Falade assumes office as NLNG MD/CEO

Adeleye Falade

Adeleye Falade has assumed office as managing director and chief executive officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).

He took up the role on Wednesday at the company’s corporate head office in Port Harcourt, succeeding Philip Mshelbila, who was recently appointed secretary general of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

Falade’s appointment was announced by NLNG shortly before his resumption, following internal and shareholder approvals.

Falade brings nearly three decades of experience in the global oil and gas industry, with leadership roles across the LNG and petroleum value chain. His career within the Shell Group spans upstream and midstream operations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia and Africa.

His experience covers gas and petroleum operations, production optimisation, engineering, operational performance, business improvement and change management. He has held senior technical and leadership roles within Shell and its affiliated companies, working in multinational joint ventures and managing diverse teams.

Before his appointment, Falade served as managing director of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, a role he assumed in April 2024, where he oversaw operations at one of the world’s established LNG producers.

Earlier in 2023, he was named country chair for Shell Namibia, providing leadership for the company’s operations and stakeholder relations in the country.

Falade also previously held senior roles at NLNG. Between May 2019 and September 2023, he was general manager, production, responsible for plant performance, operational safety and production reliability at the company’s facilities on Bonny Island.

He had earlier served as operations manager at NLNG from July 2015 to May 2018. He later moved to the Netherlands as regional asset management system implementation manager at Shell in The Hague, where he led deployment of systems aimed at improving efficiency across global assets.

Falade holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from the University of Ibadan and an MBA from Henley Business School, University of Reading, United Kingdom.

He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Falade takes over at a time of ongoing developments at NLNG. The company recently secured long term gas supply agreements with six third party suppliers to improve feed gas supply to its Bonny Island trains. Its Train 7 expansion project is also nearing completion, a move expected to increase production capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global LNG market.

Falade joins a fully Nigerian management team at NLNG, reflecting the company’s focus on indigenous leadership and local capacity development.

Sophia Horsfall, general manager, external relations and sustainable development, confirmed the development in a statement.
