Singer Adekunle Gold has stunned fans online after sharing throwback photos showing his humble beginnings nearly 20 years ago.

The singer, whose name is Adekunle Kosoko, posted the photos on Instagram on Sunday. One image showed him sitting beside a dilapidated kiosk opposite the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), where he studied.

“2005. 20 years ago,” he captioned the post.

The photo sparked wide reactions across social media, with many praising the singer for how far he has come.

One fan wrote, “No woman was there for him but today…”

Another said, “Life is really full of surprises. This guy is now a star.”

Some also recalled the singer’s early days of fame when he was known for photoshopping himself into celebrity photos.

Adekunle Gold first gained public attention in 2014 with his photoshopped images alongside celebrities like Tiwa Savage and Toolz. That same year, he released ‘Sade’, a highlife-infused love song. The song earned him a record deal with Olamide’s YBNL Nation.

In 2016, he dropped his debut album Gold, which peaked at number 7 on the Billboard World Albums chart.

Since then, the 38-year-old has gone on to release other successful albums including About 30 (2018), Afro Pop Vol. 1 (2020), Catch Me If You Can (2022) and Tequila Ever After (2023).

Adekunle Gold is married to singer Simi. The couple tied the knot in January 2019 and welcomed their daughter Adejare in May 2020.

In 2022, the singer opened up about living with sickle cell disease, which inspired his foundation focused on advocacy and support for people with the condition.
