General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor Enoch Adeboye has visited the family of the late evangelist, Reverend Uma Ukpai, to condole with them over his death.
Rev. Ukpai, founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, died on October 6 at the age of 80.
In a message shared on Instagram, pastor Adeboye described Ukpai as “a true general in the army of God” and “a man of unshakable faith.”
“Earlier today, I paid a condolence visit to the residence of my dear friend and brother, Reverend Uma Ukpai, who has gone to be with the Lord,” Adeboye wrote.
His visit underscored the close personal and ministerial relationship the two clerics shared over the years.
“Reverend Uma Ukpai was not just a minister of the gospel, he was a true general in the army of our God, a man of unshakable faith, quiet strength, and uncommon humility. His life was a living sermon, one that spoke louder than words, a story of service, of love for God’s people, and of steadfast devotion to the Kingdom.”
Adeboye’s remarks highlighted Ukpai’s decades of service in Christian ministry and his influence on generations of believers across Nigeria and beyond.
“He has fought the good fight. He has finished his course. And now, he rests in the everlasting arms of the Almighty, where there is no more pain, no more striving: only peace, joy, and glory.”
The statement reflected Adeboye’s belief that Ukpai’s death marked the completion of his earthly mission and the beginning of eternal rest.
Adeboye also extended prayers of comfort to the bereaved family, expressing hope that they would find strength in faith during their period of mourning.
“To his beloved wife, Pastor Philomena Ukpai, and the entire Ukpai family, we extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies. May the Lord Himself wrap you in His unfailing love, comfort your hearts, and strengthen you in this valley of loss.”
He concluded his message with a reflection on Christian belief in life after death, portraying Ukpai’s passing as a transition to eternal glory.
“My friend has not died, he has only changed address, moving from the field of battle to the presence of his Commander-in-Chief. He is home. He is at rest. He is in the arms of God Almighty.”
Ukpai was known for his nationwide crusades and for his role as one of the founding fathers of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
Details of his burial are yet to be announced by his family.
