Actors Adebayo Salami and Yemi Solade, along with musician Daddy Showkey, are among the honourees at the maiden Black Merit Awards scheduled for Sunday, at Shell Zenith Hall of the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
The event’s founder and creative director, Oluwatoyin Black, said the awards are designed to recognise individuals of African descent who have demonstrated excellence, innovation and impact across diverse sectors.
Adebayo will be honoured as an Iconic Legend, while Daddy Showkey will receive recognition as street music icon. Other awardees include actress Mercy Aigbe, music stars Ruggedman and Obesere, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who will be presented with the grand medal distinguished leader award.
According to organisers, the awards celebrate achievements in arts, enterprise, science and social advocacy, while promoting stories that reflect Black excellence and influence.
